Continuing to limp about on your foot will only delay recovery. Rest for at least 48 hours after injury, or until the acute phase has passed. Ice should not be applied directly to the skin but in a wet tea towel, or use a commercially available hot and cold pack. This will reduce pain and inflammation and help limit swelling, which may delay the healing process.
